Wow that is an awesome Diagram!
if I can find that for the 2000, I'll be doing good. I'll see what I can work out from it for my machine, it seems my "WATLOWS" plus had many more pins.

THANKS!!!

The only wiring diagram I have seen came from an FDM1600 and is at http://3d4u.org/MyFDM_Files/FDM1600WiringDiagram.pdf. There are some differences between 1600-2000 but many things just stayed the same.

There is a 'Basic Stamp' microprocessor with a PIC processor on the main board in the 2000 that probably is doing many of those functions, but I haven't futzed with it at all.

The 'Watlow' plug on the main board just went into the wire chases and then separated into the individual wires, so without that plug it will be a challenge to recreate the wiring to the Watlows and other stuff.

If you need some photos, let me know

Hi John!
I'm sure you get plenty of questions like this since your website is so high up on the google results list, but...

I got an FDM 2000 with the Watlow PIDs and the envelope heaters removed.
I've got replacement PIDs and envelope heaters, but I cant find any documentation on the interface between the Watlows and the main board. there is a big plug labeled "WATLOW", but I don't have a cable or anything to start with. If I can get a pinout or an understanding of how they communicate, that would be great to start me on the way.

THANKS

Hi Jakub,

You should only need to press 'Enter' on the keypad to clear the 'Low Temp Set' message. Then if the 'Pause' light is lit, press it to un-pause.

Then try your jogging.

I just checked the Insight Version I have by my 1650 and it's 7.0 . I recalling using a higher version with it, but I can't quickly locate the computer I used (I think that means I have too many).

With the 7.0 it was on my choices for machine type. [Modelers] then [Setup] then click the bottom icon in the right hand pane to get the dialog. Then toggle the 'Modeler Type' list box & scroll down to FDM 1650. See the other setting too if different on your machine. Click the green check mark to activate that modeler. I'm pretty sure it was the same up to v8.1 at least.

Hope that helps

I've looked at the release notes for Insight 7.1 and 8.1. Both say that the last version to support the 1650 was 6.3. Is there something you have to do to the later versions that allows them to work on the 1650?

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Trevor,

I haven't noticed an improvement in *print quality* from the Insight Versions -- just less bugs.

The print quality seems to depend on (in no particular order)

Have a snug fitting tray and foam

Low backlash in the cable drive Automove X and Y axis

Dry support and model materials (run the ooze test)

I'm still having trouble keeping my material dry...

Hope that helps
